Stay Focused-Part 1

FOCUS-PART 1

“Don’t let good rob you of great.”

In other words, yes, you may have a lot of good ideas, but we say NO to good ideas every day in order to focus on the GREAT IDEAS! It is a matter of time, energy and focus for us and it is critical to our success or failure.

Harry Beckwith, author of The Invisible Touch, Selling the Invisible, What Clients Love and You, Inc., says this, “Narrow your focus to broaden your appeal.”

Never has a statement been more true, especially today. It seems counterintuitive to do less, but we have found the energy and passion to do what we love when we aren't jumping through hoops trying to be everything to everybody.

Scott McKain calls this idea TUF which means “The Ultimate Few.” Out of all the good things you can do, what are the great things?

There is power in staying incredibly focused.

“Most business owners think they are have a narrow focus, but if you look closely you will realize that more often than not, they are trying to float a lot of boats. They would justify this as “good business” or “mitigating risk”. In a way it makes sense – you would want to increase the chances of sales and revenue by offering as many options/products/services as you can. But hard as it may be to believe, focusing on a single product/service or at least a category, is the best way to ensure success.”   ~Spellbrand

In our digital photography universe, making fewer decisions on what to do is hard if not next to impossible. Products that can now be offered nearly drown us in their sheer numbers. Ways we can process a file are endless as are the hours we spend sitting in front of our computers!

We have found a systemic problem when privately coaching other photographers...

THEY DO TOO MUCH-THEY OFFER TOO MUCH-THEY HAVE WATERED DOWN THEIR BUSINESS-THEY ARE TIRED-THEY ARE FRUSTRATED-THEY HAVE LOST THEIR FOCUS-AND THEY ARE NOT MAKING A HEALTHY PROFIT!

Yes, you may have had an idea you wanted to try, but is it working? Is it profitable? Remove it if not! It will help you narrow your focus.

 Our Story...

Years ago, we realized we were offering too many products in too many sizes in too many finishes...and it was confusing, even to us! We started pruning our offerings, one at a time, as we realized some were never purchased or were too expensive to produce, which was cutting into our profits.

We did this pruning year after year until we created a simple pricing structure.

We also realized that we did three things very well and today, we ONLY offer these three things and 95% are done in our studio, not outdoors. We are known as studio shooters and that is what we promote, making us unique in a world of "park" shooters.

Here is what we offer:

Black and White Relationship Portraits and *Nouveau Portraits
Color Studies
Beau Visage Mixed Media Paintings
*New offering of black and white portraiture with a modern twist for families with older children.

What we don’t do...weddings, events, school photos or high volume anything.

High school seniors must fit into one of the three areas above and we have done all of them with our seniors, but we are not a high volume senior business.

We realized long ago that developing a robust senior business may be a good idea, but we decided we couldn’t focus on it with all of our energy, so we passed it by.

Instead, we are focusing on what we feel are our strengths and where our passion lies. It is a win-win for us and for our clients.
