Pain Points

Mar 26 2026 | By: Bev Walden

Over the years, we have heard the following...

“My clients are interested… they just don’t follow through.”

But that raises a question.

Are they not interested?

Or are they simply stuck?

In most cases, it’s not an objection.

It’s what we call a pain point. Our goal is to find ways to overcome them while guarding our brand.

Here are a few we have encountered:

Their Life Gets Busy

Have you noticed how often clients say:

“We’ve just been so busy…”

Busy turns into distracted.

Distracted turns into delay.

Delay becomes another year gone.

And then you hear it…

“I can’t believe a year has passed.”

We say it ourselves!

Something feels recent… and it turns out it was five years ago or more.

Time compresses in our minds

Which makes it easy to believe there’s always more of it.

There isn’t.

“We’ll Do It Next Year”

Parents often think waiting is harmless.

But...children grow and change, even subtly.

Schedules fill with activities.

Opinions get stronger.

What was once easy… becomes difficult as the kids get older. But it is so worth the effort to work on ways to get clients in.

It’s Not Always Money

In our experience, price is rarely the real issue.

People invest in what they value. We do the same thing!

They value what they understand, so you must find ways to communicate the value of what you do.

 Good Intentions Don’t Create Portraits

How often have you heard, when running into a client when out, “Oh, I’ve been meaning to call you…”

They mean it.

But intention without action leads to delay.

And delay often means it never happens.

Three Things Must Align

The timing has to be right.

The investment has to feel manageable.

And there has to be a strong enough reason to move forward.

Most photographers wait for these to align on their own.

But often, what’s missing is not desire.

It’s a prompt, well thought out.

Often, it is as simple as keeping in touch (and top of mind) with emails, newsletters, hand-written cards on occasion, random acts of kindness, posts on social media, writing a blog repeating this message, etc. We do it all!

A Final Thought

Families don’t regret the portraits they created.

They regret the ones they missed doing. And now it's too late.

Your role is not just to photograph them.

It’s to help them act while the moment is still here.

Not next year.

Now.
