3 words

Awhile back, I came across this from Jeffery Gitomer’s website, written by Nick Woog. I am going to share some of it and then add some of my thoughts!

From “Nick”

“How far do you look for advice, wisdom and insight? Do you invest in classes, online

content and books? Do you carve out time to search for mentors or have you tried to

create a master-mind group? Since one doesn't generally just "think" of wisdom, but

rather has been exposed to it in a prior form, these are often the best resources.

However, the other day I looked close to home and realized that my father, who was the

furthest thing from a businessman, exposed me to a ton of wisdom, day-by-day and in

areas not frequently addressed by even the most prolific business sages. He passed away

18 months ago after a quick and brutal fight with pancreatic cancer and as I

thought about him and how he lived, three words spoke to me and they're words I don't

think I've heard often enough."

1. Perspective

2. Agenda

3. Experiment

As I thought about what those 3 words could mean to a photographer in either a

sales or a session experience, here are my thoughts.

Perspective:
What is your perspective? I think this ties directly in to what your mission statement is and what your goals are. How do you see your business? Are you a half full or half empty person? Do you see the roadblocks as challenges or easy ways to accept defeat?
In this business climate, things are tough. Photography has been diluted to an iPhone…and value has not been placed on it. What is your response to this current climate? Do you throw your hands up, or do you create something that is above and beyond to set yourself apart?

Agenda:
What is your AGENDA? Do you let your agenda get in the way of your customer? Studies have shown in the teaching world that when teachers set aside their agenda and let the students’ agendas take precedence, real learning occured.

Are you able to do this? When I say to set your own agenda aside, I mean allow the creativity of the moment to complement what you know is the right path.

Experiment:
I call it play! This is SO important! Experimenting helps hone your creativity and it keeps you at the top of your game. I remember some of my very “early “ experiments and the results were sometimes terrible, but more times than not, they were fantastic.
And I learned something new each time...so failing was not failing...it was learning!

Throw caution to the wind and try something new!
