10 Tips to Attract the Right Client

Attracting the right clients for your business...

Do you see common themes? You most likely will because numerous studies and writings have shown that likeability (and trustworthiness) is directly correlated with the similarity of values, beliefs, interests and experiences. One researcher described it as “an ancient skill encoded in us by our forebears.” When people connect at this basic level, they are engaging in an embryonic form of trust with each other.

In other words, as the old saying goes, people like to do business with people who are like them.

Who is the right client for you? Here are TEN TIPS to get you exactly the right client!

1-Demographics-first things first to set your course.

Identify age, gender, location, income, etc. that matches your vision and business.

For us...Age from late 20s to late 50s..Married...Children (babies to elementary school)...Both parents in professional jobs or at least one parent in highly paid professional job...Zip codes...Kids in private schools...and an often overlooked characteristic we look for: loves photography and appreciates it.

2-Style...Your style will determine your brand which will determine the clients you want to attract.

3-Your prices should reflect the quality. You cannot attract the high end client by being at bargain basement pricing.

Every marketing expert says this: “High end clients do not care much for cheap provisions — they do not trust them.”

4-Don't fish with the wrong bait for the "fish" you want. (ie: discounts or Groupons don't match with a high end boutique business)

5-A business should always strive to be the best because that solid reputation will establish you as a top brand that’s reliable and worthy of respect (and the money your charge.)

6-Pay attention to the small details like a well designed website, beautiful facility, professionally designed literature-it all makes a difference in perception and will attract or repel.

7-Marketing must line up with the perfect client once you know who that perfect client is. Don't worry about missing out on those clients who don't line up or fit your business. They will cause you to expend energy that you could use on clients that line up with your business and in the end, they cause heartache.

8-Build connections with potential clients as well as keep your face in front of your current clients by being seen in the right places. Private schools, charity events, etc are where the right people are.

9-Follow up with prospects until they become actual clients. It usually takes about seven touches before someone responds to your message.

Note: Be sensitive to when someone really is not interested so that you don't burn that bridge for future opportunities.

10-Establish yourself as an expert in your field to attract new clients who are looking for quality. How? Public speaking, publishing papers or books, teaching classes in your place of business, etc.
