Definition of Value: to make a judgment about the amount of money that something is worth
Are you worth the investment?
Of course, the foundation of great value is great execution and skill. This goes without saying; you cannot charge top dollar for a facade of excellence. It is why we can never stand still, thinking we know it all! We must continue to learn, to move forward and never be satisfied with the status quo.
Along with excellence, we do a few other things that are small but mighty in building perception that our portraits are valuable fine art.
ONE:We attach aCertificate of Authenticityto every wall portrait that we hand print or have custom printed (our top lines.) This certificate is hand-signed and has a registration number. Notice how the registration number has meaning and embedded information. See example at the bottom.
TWO:Along with the certificate, we attach a pouch to the back of the framed portrait with paperwork that encourages our clients to write letters to their children or whomever is in the portrait. The emotion of this "love letter" adds immense value when it is connected to the portrait. In fact, the portrait is now priceless!
THREE:One of the special things we include on our Beau Visage paintings, in addition to the above, is awax sealwith a crown which is the Beau Visage symbol. After the painting is picked up, we send a letter as a follow-up to remind them to write their personal thoughts down on the papers we have provided along with an informational paper about the history of wax seals and how they have been used throughout history by royalty to indicate the authenticity of a document and as a symbol of friendship.
FOUR:This year, we reached out to a friend who is the curator of an art museum and asked him to help us get our wording correct as we worked on our marketing. Using the correct art terminology is important if you are presenting yourself as an artist and your work as pieces of art. Long ago, we determined that we no longer wanted to be known as photographers, but instead, we set our sights on being known as artists who just happen to use a camera to create:-)
I hope you enjoy these four quick tips on adding value to your portrait art.
